Varsity Indoor Track · Track Notebook- Regional Results Abongwa advances to State Wins Shot Put

The Indoor Track & Field team competed at the 4A Central Regional Championships on Wednesday at the Baltimore Armory. Several athletes advanced to the Maryland State Championships to be held later this month. Sophomore Marie Abongwa led the way setting a personal record, winning the shot put by 2 feet, with a throw of 37′ 6″ which ranks her 4th all-time in school history! Arie Mcilwain maintained the Flowers Hurdle Pride winning the 55m hurdles followed by teammates Anissa Bernard in 2nd, and Nenna Nnawku in 4th. Senior Hampton University signee Javon Watts qualified in the 500m, 800m and was part of the 4x400m team that advanced. Junior Sprinter Indyah Taylor had a long night advancing in 4 events, 55m, 300m, 4x200m, 4x400m. The girls team finished 2nd over-all, behind Frederick County’s Urbana High School. Highlights by several athletes helped the Jaguars to the runner up finish. The boys had a good showing as the 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams advanced to the championships.
